The EvilTwin CJ-5

The rear axle was pulled, and the new axle was prepared for installation. The rear axle had a custom Baertrax truss and Mountan Offroad spring perches installed (not pictured). The Mountain Offroad spring perches have 3 spots to attach the spring, allowing the axle to be pushed back for approximately one inch increased wheelbase. Note another set of short shocks. These shocks did not have any oil in them at all, and were completely non-functional.

Baertrax also made a custom torsion bar setup, to prevent the springs from being ruined by axle wrap.

Measurements were taken for shocks, and the shocks were ordered. Since the Jeep had 15.5" wide tires on stock 8" wheels, we put the tires on new 10" wheels. Because of the wider tires and reduced backspacing, an additional 7" of width was obtained, giving a total width increase of 11". The wider stance is clear!

The factory bump stops were too far away from the springs, so a set of stops 4" longer than stock were added to prevent the springs from inverting. New driveshafts were built the proper length by American Driveline Supply in Hurst, Texas.

The final product works very well. We will soon be adding a Buttface and tierod from Baertrax, as it was found toward the end of the day on the first run that the stock tie rod is not very strong. The link at the bottom of this page will take you to more on this...
